Resurrecting the Champ Movie Review

Resurrecting the Champ stars Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Hartnett. The film is about a young reporter (Hartnett) looking for a story to kinda put his career on the map. When he meets a homeless self-proclaimed boxing legend, he runs with the story. Things take a turn when the identity of the homeless "Champ" is questioned.

My take
An interesting plot. Great actors, but fell somewhat short. I wasn't particularly impressed with Jackson's performance and the drama could have been milked a little more. I did like the lesson of the film, which was to bring focus to the father-son relationship. By no means one of the best boxing movies, but a nice rental watch.

Speed Racer - Crash and Burn

Despite it's estimated $180+ million budget, Speed Racer only managed to bring in $20.2 million this weekend. Ouch! Someone's gonna get brought into the office for a long talk.

Many critics claim the film abandoned it's audience by not bringing any of the elements from the japanese cartoon into the film. Further, critics say it's just a special effects show. What's wrong with that? Critics said Slyvester Stallone's Driven was bad, but I loved it. Sometimes, critics are just old dudes looking for something to complain about.

The Final Season Movie Review

The Final Season starring Sean Astin (Rudy) was released this past week. I added it to my Netflix queue and watched it a few days ago. Here is my official video movie review.

Top 8 Disney Sports Movies

Over the past decade Disney has given us some total classic sports films. The first Disney sports film I remember watching as a kid was Tiger Town (Roy Schieder, Jaws). Unfortunately, Tiger Town is not available on DVD.

Anyhow, recently Disney has brought us some especially classic sports movies so I wanted to list a few of those here:

Sorry, but the Air Bud series is not worth putting on this list. I said classics!

Best Boxscore Ever?

Last night the Texas Rangers were down 3-0 going into the 4th inning against the Baltimore Orioles. Final score, 30-3, Texas wins! Texas had 2 grand slams and 2 guys (Vazquez, Saltalamacchia) with 7 RBIs. The impressive thing was that Texas did it with 29 hits.

The Orioles went through just 4 pitchers, which isn't many considering they were getting totally embarrassed. I guess at some point you just give up and save your pitchers for your next game....which, by the way was right after this one! I thought Leo Mazzone left Atlanta to help the Baltimore pitching situation? A team has to really try to give up 30 runs. Even Little League games don't reach that stratosphere. Sports Movie Review
Last week I watched what is supposed to be a sports movie classic, Le Mans, starring Steve McQueen. Boring! The first 30 minutes of the film had no talking and was just the slow process of getting the race started. It dragged on so long I felt like I was in the Le Mans....which maybe was the point and I totally missed it.
